The Centre for Precision Agriculture and Sustainability hosted its second Ag-Tech Day on October 1, 2024. The event brought together around 100 in-person attendees, a large online audience, and representatives from farming communities to explore innovative collaborations, research advancements, and commercialization opportunities in agriculture.
Opening Remarks and CPAS Introduction
The event opened with remarks from Dr. Kristopher Innanen, Dr. Pierre Kennepohl, and Dr. Farhad Maleki, who underscored the essential role of precision agriculture and the Centre for Precision Agriculture and Sustainability (CPAS) in driving research and innovation. Their introductions set the tone for the day's discussions, highlighting the importance of collaboration among academia, industry, and farming communities to promote economically viable and sustainable agricultural practices.




Presentations
Following the opening remarks, leaders from industry, academia, and farming communities delivered a series of insightful presentations. David Fullerton (Olds College of Agriculture & Technology), John Derksen (Lethbridge Polytechnic), Janay Meisser (UFA Cooperative Limited), Lewis Baarda (Farming Smarter), Simona Fernandes (Plug and Play Alberta), Clinton Dobson (Results Driven Agriculture Research), and Tom Finn (Genome Alberta) shared their expertise on diverse aspects of precision agriculture and sustainability. Their presentations spanned a broad range of topics, sparking thought-provoking discussions and offering attendees valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing modern agriculture.








Panel: Farming for the Future – Challenges & Opportunities
The "Farming for the Future: Challenges & Opportunities" panel brought together experts Dora Tamas (Creative Destruction Lab - Rockies), Maris Apse (Innovate Calgary), Marcus Samuel (University of Calgary), Kelly Krahulic (Carrot Ventures), and Matt Gosling (Premium Ag Solutions Inc)​ to discuss the evolving challenges and innovations in modern agriculture. After the panelists shared their insights, the discussion was further enriched by questions from the audience, sparking engaging dialogue on the future of sustainable farming and the role of emerging technologies.






Networking Session: Connecting Ag-Tech Enthusiasts
During the Ag-Tech Day 2 event, we also hosted a vibrant networking session, where attendees had the opportunity to connect with industry leaders, researchers, and fellow innovators. This informal gathering allowed participants to exchange ideas, explore potential collaborations, and discuss the latest trends in agriculture technology. The session fostered meaningful conversations that strengthened community ties and inspired future partnerships.
